The growing number of smart mobile devices is challenging the capacity of wireless networks. The most efficient technique to increase capacity is to re-use frequency by installing significantly more cell sites. Small Cells, low-powered outdoor access nodes with a typical range of 10 to several hundred meters, provide a cost effective way of increasing the number of cell sites. This, in turn, improves coverage on metropolitan street level and in buildings such as airports, train stations, shopping malls and sports stadiums which are otherwise difficult to reach using traditional macro cells.
Because of their smaller power and size and the fact that they can be deployed discretely in buildings and metropolitan street infrastructure (e.g. bus stops, advertising hoardings, etc.), Small Cells and their cabling infrastructure also differ significantly from typical macro cell RRH installations.
